Squat, Bench and Dead

Just met with coaches at our new site to continue the process begun late fall.

The technique they developed was really something. And now they can safely and confidently perform the lifts then we can commence adding the weight.

Gonna be a great season with these athletes.

I am used to describing those I coach as “Student/athletes”. An old habit I guess.

So since these outstanding individuals are all students of making themselves a great life, how about “Life/athletes”?

Let’s go B’s and G.

Let’s go!!!!

Rita

When my faith journey first commenced, our paths crossed.

Attending communion service at LC in Mequon, I got to know Rita. At first, it was about making sure she had a chair with arms so she could stand up and take the body of Christ.

Then, I would arrive in time to help her in and out of her car and into the service. Being a very independent woman she lived in and drove all around our town.

We always talked. She always listened. And we became close.

Moreso than I ever imagined.

Then a week or so ago, I get a letter from her son telling me she passed. And how she spoke of me. Tonight at the service, several people from the same communion service came up to me to say how she always spoke of me.

Talk about a “come to Jesus” moment.

They are desperately needed so as to realign oneself with what is genuine. Honest. True.

And of God.

Rita just loved, shared and gave. All the way to the end.

I am floored that those individuals approached me to share how much she cared for my well-being. After the fact.

Cannot say it was out of the blue.

It was out of Rita.

This changes things in a grand fashion.

Thank you for remaining with me past the end Rita.

I will forever then remain with you.

You just changed my life – again – for the better.

Thank you.

Hawks!

Congratulations to the Ozaukee Hawks basketball team for going 2-0 today and winning first place in the Region 8, Division 7 tournament today at Homestead High School in Mequon, WI!

Game 1: Spring City Bucks 19, OZ Hawks 29
The Hawks led by one point at halftime, then played a solid second half with balanced scoring from the players.

Game 2: West Bend Hoopers 24, OZ Hawks 42
The Hawks were down by two points at halftime, then played strong defense, rebounded well, and got a few fastbreak baskets in the second half to win the game!

The three coaches are very proud of the ways the players are working in practice, enjoying themselves playing as a team, and seeing success today on the basketball court!

You can see the confidence, connection and trust growing each time we are together. Those are the key elements that bind a team together. Whether we run the table or not, the fact that they have invested in each other in this fashion makes this a win all the way around.

Many teams NEVER figure that out.

We play next in the SOWI Sectional on Saturday, March 15th at New Berlin High School.

Cannot wait to see what happens next!!!

One of the best Sunday’s ever!!!

Character.

There is this amazing source of energy generated by character.

One that can only be accessed through your choices. Character is a catalyst, helping you unleash your potential.

But it also doubles as a guide, creating for you an internal pathway. A trail that can lead you ever closer to the best version of “you.” Your character can act to shepherd you towards many opportunities for growth, achievement and success. And one such opportunity stands out among all the rest: the call to leadership.

Every choice, every decision you make is an opportunity to affirm the strength of your character. So if you stay true to yourself, then the choices you make will always parallel your character.

And decisions made on this basis become the deeds that reveal the core, fundamental truths about “you”. A genuine, unmistakable and lasting image of the very best part of you.

This mass – “who you are” – begins to work in concert with the leader that resides within. There is power in that collaboration.

Your character becomes an irresistible force.

Spreading ever outward, casting an indelible impression on the people and the world about you.

Leadership that is only begotten of character.

Be steadfast.

“Luck comes to a man who puts himself in the way of it. You went where something might be found and you found something, simple as that.”

— Louis L’Amour

Going where something might be found has nothing to do with luck. Rather, it is an intuitive way of looking at opportunity.

Before you can put yourself in the way of it, you have to apply yourself in ways that will get you there in the first place. Expending energy and effort. Making a personal investment. And staying the course. Not just once. Nor ten or a hundred times. But always.

A level of commitment that doesn’t just put you in the way of one thing. But many, many others just like it. Making things “luck” if you want to call it that.

Yet in reality, you are expanding opportunity.

But only through your steadfast commitment.
